What is CFD trading?

CFDs stand for “Contracts for Difference” and basically represent an agreement between the investor and a CFD broker to exchange the difference in the price of a financial product between the time the contract opens and closes. Also, CFDs grant you the opportunity to potentially profit from a market price movement you have correctly predicted without having to own the underlying asset.

What are spreads?

In the world of finance, spreads have several meanings. Still, most of them are somehow related to the difference between the two prices. In CFD trading or futures contracts, spreads mean the difference in trading position, namely the gap between a short position (selling) and a long position (buying).

What are ask & bid prices?

The ask and bid prices are also known as the bid-ask spread, bid-offer spread, or buy-sell. Like spreads, the meaning in the financial world varies, so provided would be the definition bound with CFD trading only. Here bid-offer spread means the difference between the prices given for immediate order – the ask – and an immediate sale – the bid.

What is the leverage?

Leverage means using borrowed funds to have the possibility to amplify returns from an investment project. Traders also use it to multiply their buying power in the market. Thus, with the leverage, you get a larger amount of finances to operate on the market. Still, this also means that all your losses would be multiplied, too.

CFD trading key takeaways

A contract for differences is a created agreement between the trader and the broker to exchange the asset’s difference in value between contract opening and closure.

The trader never owns, buys, or invests in the asset directly. Instead, the trader receives revenue based on the price change of that asset.

CFD trading advantages:

  • Higher leverage, if compared to traditional trading.
  • Access to various international markets from one platform.
  • Zero commissions and professional execution.
  • No day trading requirements.
  • Vast choice of CFDs on assets.
  • No shorting rules or borrowing stock.

The attractiveness of CFD trading is created by lower cost than buying the asset outright, simplified execution, and the options to go long and short.
